I’m kinda liking these old Planet of The Apes comics published in the 70s by Power Records. Each one came with a 7″ to accompany the story (“It’s fun to read as you hear”) but more importantly the artwork is also great most of the time. You can still pick these up fairly cheaply (£1 for this one including the 7inch), but if not there’s a very comprehensive online resource here that features down-loadable versions of all the comics and records. Here’s the 7″ that came with this one:

One of my favourite Vaughn Bodé comics, The Collected Purple Pictography was published in 1991 by EROS Comix. It gathers all the strips made by Bodé and Berni Wrightson for Swank Magazine between 1971-1972. The combination of both artists works surprisingly well and this collected version is a lovely little publication. A few spreads after the jump.
And here’s the great man himself. I will also post up a few Bodé treasures soon…
After seeing some Vaughn Bodé bits over at the Build+Destroy blog, I remembered this Cheech Wizard animation from a few years back by Nigel Hendrickson. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem the project was ever finished. It’s a bit too 3D and shiny for my liking, but any attempt to bring Cheech to life is always worth a look I think. I would love to see a proper 70s, dirty, scratchy, 2D version made though!
It also appears a live action movie of another Bodé classic, Cobalt 60 has just been announced and will be directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen). Definitely one to watch out for.
