Alan Fletcher – Clam Ashtray

I recently picked up one of these ashtrays designed by Alan Fletcher for Mebel in Italy in around 1970 (I think). I don’t smoke, so I’m not exactly sure what I’m gonna do with it yet, but it’s a very beautiful object so maybe that’s reason enough to have one.

Habitat reissued it a few years ago. Nice catch.

You could use it to hold peanuts?

I’m looking for one of these for a long time… Where did you buy it?

    Thanks

Hey Gustavo, I picked this one up in a small shop in the Ebisu area of Tokyo. But I understand, as mentioned in another comment, that Habitat did a re-issue a couple of years ago which is probably where this one originated.

These items are great. I bought one of the Habitat remakes in Bournemouth a few years ago. I thing it was about £10. I also recently bought an original from a car boot sale. This doesn’t have any writing on it at all and is a little heavier than the new one. I’m confident it is original as all the items on the stall were from a house clearance from the sellers parents and were all from the 60’s period. This one cost me a mere 50p! I think only the remakes have the writing on them, can anyone else confirm this?

The old original ones have a serial number barely visible on the inside and it also says design objectives rather than the reissue that says A. Fletcher.

    Good luck
