I’ve recently been enjoying the work of British film maker Jeff Keen and there is now an excellent boxset available from the BFI. Well worth a look. Thanks to the Cox-Dorée Institure.

As with most things Doctor Who related, I really love these old book covers. I plucked them from this great Doctor Who site. Just for fun.

Rumplo Interview

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Rumplo have just posted up a La Boca feature and a selection of my favourite T’shirts from their site here. If you don’t know, Rumplo is a great site dedicated to the best in T’shirt design from around the world. We’ve been avid viewers for a while so it’s an honour to appear on there!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

We’ve just added a couple of 70X100cm prints to the shop. They are both CMYK offset Litho prints and have a nice matt finish. Produced by the nice people at Sixpack.

EON – Spice (J. Saul Kane Version) 1990

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

We received the very sad news that our friend EON passed away today. Along with Depth Charge and Baby Ford, EON released a catalogue of amazing records on Vinyl Solutions in the early 90s. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

How Planes Fly

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I recently picked up this lovely little Puffin Picture Book, How Planes Fly by Sydney E. Veale and ‘Wren’. Published in 1953, the book is No.94 in the Picture Book series and features some very tasty illustrations – check the green jet-propelled Delta on the back cover!

Kelpe – T’shirt

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Kelpe has released his first T’shirt, featuring an illustration by our friend Alex Jaco. They’re now available to buy in a few colours from the DC Recordings website – I plumped for the gold!

The Shrine – Lagos

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

In the past week the Nigerian authorities have finally succeeded in closing the legendary Shrine venue in Lagos. The Shrine club originally formed part of the “Kalakuta Republic” founded by Fela Kuti in the early 70s (which also included a recording studio and commune), and was the stage where Fela developed the Afrobeat sound. It’s not the first time the venue has been closed by the authorities – The original Shrine was already destroyed in 1977 – but unfortunately it appears this latest closure may be final.

Here’s a clip of Fela at home and a clip of the Shrine as it stood until last week.
