I recently picked up this nice boxset made by National Geographic in around 1980. The box is just a bit bigger than a 10inch vinyl sleeve, and inside are 3 separate elements: Stars in Your Sky, which is a sleeve containing a dial map of the universe; SpaceScope, which is an 8pp booklet containing 6x 35mm slides of space imagery; and lastly, SpaceSounds, which is a sleeve containg a 10inch flexidisc of some tasty space sounds!
I don’t know much about the package (except that I like it), the booklet design is credited to David M. Seager, but I don’t know if he is also responsible for the great optical patterns and the overall package design as well.
This will be a welcome addition to the La Boca book shelf.

Superbe !
Hmm, interesting. Trans Am used that last one (spacesounds) as the sleeve artwork for their self-titled LP.
Thanks Nik – I hadn’t seen that Trans Am sleeve. That’s funny – it’s a straight rip!

The only thing that seems to be missing in the “Space Scope” itself – this was a little cardboard contraption that looked like a mini telescope high powered telescope, it was used to view the photographic strips in the folder. Very nice condition…I have the same kit with the book that came along with it, I got mine in 1980…I was 10…brings back memories.
I love that record. I’ve got two copies of it – although only one of them really survived my childhood. (I’m listening to it right now).
I’ve been looking for a better copy, the record is so wonderful.
The star chart.. I had forgot about that. Mine is long since wrecked, worn out from backpacking evenings out into my dad’s farm fields to look at the stars with it.
The “Our Universe” book is still on my bookshelf. I still pull it out from time to time. When I was in grade 1, I helped the teacher with our ‘astronomy’ lessons with it. I had read that book cover to cover so many times, I knew more of what she was trying to teach than she did =P
LOL! This is wonderful! I got that kit with the Our Universe book Christmas 1980. There is a fourth component that is missing. It is the slide viewer in the shape of a newtonian telescope. You had to put it together though.
I still have my original book but it is very torn up. I bought a second copy more recently. The kit… well, I hope it’s somewhere packed away in my childhood stuff.
how did you pay for it? just wondering cause I have the same box and never been open. and I don’t want it. It is for sALE
