Slovakia – Countryside

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I’m in Slovakia. It’s cold.

Aubrey Powell – Hipgnosis

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Here’s a nice interview with Aubrey Powell, primarily discussing the last Hypnogsis book For The Love of Vinyl, but also revealing some interesting details behind some of their sleeves.

The book is published by PictureBox Inc (ISBN: 0981562213).

Beat Street – Santa’s Rap

Treacherous Three ft. Doug E. Fresh.
Merry Christmas.

Parallels – Chelsea Percussion Group 1978

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Picked this up at my grandparents house today. It’s an A5 flyer from 1978 advertising a gig by the Chelsea Percussion Group – in which my uncle played the glockenspiel.

I like it.

Creative Review – Barney Bubbles article

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

I’m very honoured to make a brief appearance in an article on Barney Bubbles in the current issue of Creative Review (January 2009 – p26-27). The article is written by David Knight, and even though I’m talking nonsense in there, it’s good to see Barney finally getting some of the recognition he deserves.

I quite like the cover of this months issue too. Here’s the story of how it came about.

The Emperor Machine – Moscow

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Here’s a new video of our friend (and hero) The Emperor Machine filmed during a recent trip to Moscow. Very chuffed to see him wearing one of our T’shirts too! Apologies for the completely shameless plug – but I believe there are still a few of these available from Sixpack (DC Recordings sold out already!).

Can’t wait for the new album!

The Dark Side of the Mood – Mixtape

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Our good friends over at Stereo Pleasure in Lille, are holding an exhibition of new work until the 17th January. To celebrate they have compiled this very tasty mixtape. Download here for a limited time. Cosmic.

Harry Smith – Early Abstractions Pt.3 + Pt.4

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

I really enjoy the animation work of Harry Smith. The Early Abstractions series made between 1946-57 is truly beautiful – Parts 3 and 4 (above) are my favourites.

Australia premiere

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Last night I went to the UK premiere of the new Baz Luhrmann film Australia at the Odeon in Leicester Square. Not usually my type of movie – and one you definitely can’t analyse too deeply – but I enjoyed it. It’s a very easy film to criticise and there are certainly flaws, but it’s a Hollywood epic so you can’t expect too much. It’s fun for all the family, and certainly better than most of the reviews would have you believe.

And I got to have another look at the lovely Compton Organ before the film began.

Depth Charge – Mecha Squirrel

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

We’ve just finished designing this 12inch sleeve for a new release by Depth Charge on DC Recordings. To be released as a vinyl only in the new year I think.
